SES volunteers join Tasmanian Mounted Search and Rescue crew during training operation | The Examiner

Search and rescue volunteers put their skills to the test during a recent practice operation in Launceston. The teams from the Northern State Emergency Service incident management unit and the Tasmanian Mounted Search and Rescue met at a private property in Lilydale to combine their operational tactics. From safety briefings to radio communication, the volunteers took turns teaching each other new skills. Neil Van Veldhuizen, the Deputy Unit Manager of the SES incident management unit in the North, said training operations allowed the volunteers to make mistakes without putting lives at risk. “We don’t want to make mistakes, or learn that things are broken, in a real situation,” he said.
